BREAST CANCER TREATMENT
The therapy followed after a breast cancer diagnoses depends on the type of the cancer, in situ or invasive, the size and extent of the tumour and whether or not lymph nodes are involved. Early detected breast cancers are usually treated surgically and further adjuvant therapy will be given especially if there is a high risk of the cancer metastasizing. In advanced cancer cases on the other hand a palliative therapy is preferred instead to ease the symptoms, maintain quality of life and prolong survival. In advanced metastatic cancer surgery rarely has a therapeutic role and in these cases chemotherapy or endocrine therapy are used as the major treatment.
